Floriographic expressions were imprinted on lithographed stiff paper and used as coded messages to express feelings otherwise considered inappropriate to utter--hence their ephemeral nature. One day, I found a Victorian scrap of two potatoes. According to Victorian-era floriography, 'potato' means benevolence.
